Halloween is almost here!

Standard

As a child I absolutely loved dressing up so Halloween was an excuse for me to wear my costume out in public. I looked forward to picking out my costume every year with my mom because I got to try on so many in the process.  Out of all of the costumes I wore, my favorite costume from my childhood would definitely have to be the Tinker Bell costume. Peter Pan was my favorite movie and of course my favorite character was Tinker Bell, a fairy with attitude! I can remember that Halloween like it was yesterday. I was in the first grade and I strutted my stuff at school and while I was trick-or-treating with my brother, dressed as Peter Pan.  That is a Halloween that I am sure to never forget. I do not remember carving pumpkins that particular year but my parents always let my brother and me clean out the pumpkin. We never got to carve because it was a sure thing that one of us would have cut a finger off!

Giving out templates is a great way for Georgia Southern to promote the University.  This allows the members of the community to show their Eagle pride while partaking in the Halloween festivities.  I think other companies could benefit from doing the same thing with their logos.  The companies could place the template on their websites and link them to social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, and Instagram so they could be downloaded by consumers.  This promotion shows that the company cares about the family, since carving pumpkins tends to be a family project.  If promoted correctly I feel that it could be a successful campaign to run during this time of the year.

Fun at the Fair

Standard

In my 23 years of life I have attended many fairs, local and nationally recognized.  Because I am from the small city of Swainsboro, Georgia our fair did not have many rides or attractions but everyone still attended.  The thing I enjoyed most about the fair in my hometown was being there with my friends and family. I have also attended the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia on several occasions.  My most memorable trip to the Georgia National Fair was when my dance group and I went to compete in a talent competition.  We won first place and were asked to return the following weekend as entertainment for the crowd.  After both dance performances my dance friends and I rode as many rides as possible and ate tons of corndogs and funnel cakes.  I have always been somewhat of a thrill seeker so I would ride any ride at the fair even if my friends or family would not.

I attended the fair in Statesboro last year only to get a funnel cake.  I drove separately from my friends, paid my one dollar to get in on college student identification night, bought a funnel cake, ate it while my friends rode a couple of rides, and I then went home.  It was a short trip but well worth it!  I currently have plans to attend the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair this week with my boyfriend and some more friends from Crossfit Boro.  I am not sure how many rides we will get on, but I know I will not leave without getting a funnel cake.

Mobile Gaming

I do not believe the campaign Cosi is running would be beneficial for Coca-Cola.  Because Coke is distributed in restaurants and convenient stores all over the country it would be difficult to hold a contest like this.  It would be almost impossible to keep account of all of the prizes won with the large number of distributors.  Coca-Cola does however have a successful rewards program called My Coke Rewards.  Frequent buyers are able to redeem their codes online and build up points to get rewards and with some codes the customer is able to win much larger prizes.  This program has worked for them in the past and I feel it is in their best benefit to continue to do what works.

In past experience I have found that I do not have very good luck with contests and sweepstakes.  I do not usually participate in this type of contest and probably would not take part in what Cosi is doing.  According to research this type of campaign is working in terms of bringing more customers through the door but I would not be one of them.  The campaign Cosi is running is a great idea with the increase in the use of mobile devices but I cannot say I would be one to use it.

What annoys the heck out of you?!?!

Standard

As I started writing this blog post I could not figure out how I wanted to start which annoyed the heck out of me, kind of like a pet peeve.  I then decided to make a list of my pet peeves hoping to get some inspiration and again became aggravated! Who knew that writing a short post about the things that annoy you could actually drive you crazy! Because of this I will make this post short and sweet or I guess I should say short and irritating.

My first pet peeve has developed because of the advancement of technology.  People taking selfies in public drives me absolutely mad and I blame the inventors of Instagram and Snapchat for this.  There is absolutely no reason to take a photo of yourself while you are having dinner or any other activity with friends. Next, it infuriates me when my roommates leave dirty dishes in the sink. My motto is “if you have time to fix a meal then you have time to clean up your mess”. I feel if this simple task cannot be completed within a couple hours of cooking, your next investment should be paper plates! Last, it annoys me beyond belief when people spell words improperly.  We all learned the difference between their, there, and they’re in primary school so please use them correctly as an adult!  As crazy as it sounds I have started deleting friends from Facebook that do not properly use grammar.

I am going to stop there so I do not continue to annoy myself by thinking about the things that annoy me most.
